Case Study
Yalla Abu Dhabi is a lifestyle magazine covering events, restaurants, schools, nurseries, universities, and lifestyle activities in Abu Dhabi.
When the project began in 2021, the website was running on a custom-coded CMS that created operational, performance, and scalability problems. Even small changes required hiring a freelance developer, the server frequently experienced downtime, and the platform was difficult for the editorial team to manage.
The objective was to migrate the entire website to WordPress, rebuild the structure using Elementor, and ensure the migration occurred without downtime or loss of organic traffic.
The existing website created several operational limitations.
Custom-coded CMS
Website updates required a developer
Editorial team could not manage content easily
High dependency on external technical support
Server Infrastructure Issues
Website downtime occurred with as few as 100 concurrent users
Hosting environment was unreliable
Page loading performance was slow
Scalability Limitations
The magazine required structured content types such as:
events
restaurants
schools
nurseries
universities
The existing system did not support scalable content architecture.
A complete migration and rebuild strategy was implemented.
The goal was to move the website to a modern WordPress infrastructure while protecting existing SEO rankings and ensuring uninterrupted website access.
The website was migrated to a reliable hosting environment to eliminate downtime and support higher traffic capacity.
The migration was planned carefully to ensure:
no disruption to live traffic
stable server performance
improved loading speed
The website was rebuilt using WordPress and Elementor to allow the editorial team to manage the platform without developer dependency.
Before migration, a full structural plan was developed including:
URL mapping
category restructuring
redirect planning
template architecture
A complete redirect map was implemented to preserve existing organic rankings and avoid traffic loss.
To support the magazine’s structure, several custom post types (CPTs) were developed.
Content types created:
Events
Schools
Nurseries
Universities
Restaurants
Each content type included custom fields and filters to improve navigation and user experience.
The project included structuring and publishing large volumes of directory-style content.
Content published:
300+ restaurants
250+ schools
All universities in Abu Dhabi
200+ nurseries
This allowed the website to function as both a magazine and a searchable city directory.
The events section required dynamic sorting because new events are added frequently.
A custom query system was developed to automatically prioritize events based on timing.
Event display logic:
Events happening today
Events happening tomorrow
Events happening this week
This ensured that users always see the most relevant events at the top of the page.
Reusable Elementor templates were created to streamline content management.
Templates included:
article templates
category archive templates
events listing pages
school directory templates
nursery directory templates
restaurant directory templates
This allowed the editorial team to publish new content without technical assistance.
